Folded Optics VS standard cameras?!?!

I have owned a few cameras and every one without fail the problem came form the lens where it comes in and out. It just seems like a bad design to me, a perfect place for dust and dirt to get into.

The Folded optics cameras just seem so much more rugged to me. Something you could put in you’re pocket and not screw it up.

Like a:

Fuji Z1
Nikon coolpix S50
Olympus 770
Samsung NV3
Etc

One thing I noticed is you can’t get a wide angle lens in this design, is there any other drawbacks I don’t know about? And why do folded lens designs seem so unpopular? It is because they don’t have the traditional camera look?
