People have been asking for ages why use a mirror system? Now, a new camera that is SLR like but has no mirror, only live view. I'm sure people will kick and scream at the start, and sure, it won't challenge the big guns right away, but maybe it will open up a whole new family of cameras.
Lets look at it another way. The new system might be a poor dSLR, but if you think of it has an advanced prosumer w/interchangeable lenses, isn't that what everyone has been asking for? A small, larger sensor prosumer with interchangeable lenses.
In short, it's not whether the new system beats a D300 or 40d, it's whether it beats a Panasonic FZ50, Oly C-8080, Minolta A2, or G3. Maybe it just has to beat the DP1. Maybe this isn't a system onto itself, but a back up to your main rig, and all you need is one or two lenses to make a great street shooter.
Right now, people might buy it in this light, but if it gains a toe hold, the dSLR might go the way of the dodo - given enough time. Certainly not next year or the year after, but given time . .
I like it Olympus, Very clever if they can pull it off.
