The EX-F1 is not necessarily intended to compete with cameras like the Panasonic FZ series. Additionally, it will not beat specialized pro cameras in any one area. The reason this camera is so cool is because it lets you do a lot of cool things that previously required insanely expensive equipment. So what is this camera going to be good for? Let's count!
1) Outdoor sports In good light, you'll be getting some good shots that you'd otherwise need a Nikon D3 for. (Focusing speed plays a big role here though.)
2) Creative photography Taking a 60-shot burst in one second could lead to some interesting effects once the photos are combined.
3) Motion analysis Working on your golf swing? This will let you work out the kinks like never before.
4) Science / education Observe a cricket's legs as he chirps, or measure how much a ball deforms as it bounces.
5) Student / independent film With 60fps in HD, people can add slow-motion shots to their films for a lot less dough.
6) Multimedia production Companies who create promotional software, fancy websites, or television ads now have relatively cheap access to slow-motion effects.
7) Fun Just think of all the YouTube stuff you could make with this.
So in short, what's cool about this camera is that you can do stuff that you simply couldn't do before, unless you planned on investing a lot of money. That makes this a breakthrough product rather than just another megazoom point-and-shoot. Someone correct me if there are similar products out there for this price.
