I just started skimming the a700 review and noticed the comments on noise reduction being applied to raw, along with an image produced by Sony's raw converter with noise reduction turned off.
Are we sure we're not just seeing a quirk with Sony's raw converter (i.e., really applying some NR even though that feature is turned off).
IOW, do you see the same thing with ACR and other converters (Bibble, Lightzone, Raw Therapee, etc.)?
Even if it is applying some noise reduction to raw files (and it wouldn't surprise me to find out that other camera manufacturers modifying their raw data, too), perhaps the Sony converter is exaggerating it's impact.
I've got the camera. But, I haven't taken the time to try the Sony Converter yet (I've been using mostly Raw Therapee with my Sony DSLR-A700 so far).
I'm getting ready to try both Bibble 4.9.9, as well as Lightzone 3.3 with it's raw files now.
