That isn't true in any form.

Adobe has Nikon's permission because they have a Nikon SDK. Nikon's position is that it wants Adobe to use Nikon's SDK. Adobe's position, according to Thomas Knoll, is that Adobe doesn't want to use the Nikon SDK.

What Adobe really wants is to know is that Nikon won't sue them if they don'y use the Nikon SDK. What I have been told by Nikon USA execs is that Nikon's position is that the possibility of a Nikon v. Adobe lawsuit is a non-issue. Nikon Japan is a lot of things -- but completely stupid they aren't.

I don't work for either Nikon, their PR or advertising agancies or any Nikon re-seller -- and the same goes for Adobe. I am a freelance photographer and I write for a couple of photography magazines. In the latter capacity i have been in touch directly with people at Nikon and Thomas Knoll about this. No doubt in my mind that there are things going on behind the scenes that I don't know about in this whole flap but those are the positions that they have put on the record in e-mails to me.
